Update from the Blue Oval: State Track

The 2012 Iowa High School Track and Field Meet was held May 17-19 at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa.  A week before, the Woodward Academy team qualified in 4 events: 100 M, 4x100, 4x200, and the Long Jump.  The Iowa High School State Meet combines both girls and boys events, making it one of the largest in the nation.  Drake Stadium, dubbed "The Blue Oval" is a top notch facility and has also been host to NCAA Championships and is a top contender for the U.S. Olympic Trials.

Dedrrick Johnson started the Knights competition in the meet with the long jump event.  This continues Dedrrick's continued athletic success in 2012.  In March, he became a National Champion powerlifter after winning the 132 pound weight class at the USAPL High School National Championships in Wisconsin Dells, WI.  You can check out that post by clicking here.  As only a sophomore, Dedrrick jumped 19'4" at the Blue Oval in his only event.

Malcom Dennard had a busy couple of days as he qualified individually in the 100 meter dash and as a part of the 4x100 and 4x200 teams.  Along with Ivan Johnson, Lamont Lewis, and Chase Misner, the 4x100 team marked one of their fastest times of the year, running 45.03 in the meet.

Congrats to all the participants at the Iowa State Track & Field event and good job to the Knights track team as a whole for a solid season.  You can check out more pictures of the State Meet and other events going on across campus by going to our Knight Pics website by clicking here.
