Congrats Class of 2012!!

The graduating Class of 2012 was honored at their commencement ceremony yesterday, Thursday, May 24 in the WA gymnasium.  This school year, 21 students received their high school diploma and 28 their GED certificate.  This marks the highest graduating class to date with 49 students.  To compare, last year saw 30 students walk across the stage and the class of 2010 consisted of 25 total students.

This year, the keynote speaker was Matt Wagner, Vice President at West Bank in West Des Moines.  Wagner is an alum of Iowa State University and played several years of professional baseball in the MLB for the Cleveland Indians and Montreal Expos after being drafted in 1996 in the 3rd round by the Seattle Mariners.  Injuries eventually ended his baseball career, which gave him a new perspective on life and moved him toward his career in banking.

After the keynote address, three seniors spoke on behalf of the graduating class.  They all thanked the teachers and staff at Woodward Academy for helping them accomplish something that some of them never thought was possibly several years ago.  Senior Jerry Glover reflected on his stay and noted that “Woodward Academy didn’t change who I am, but how I look at things.”

Graduation Day is customarily followed by a Fun Day for all students.  Jimmy’s BBQ catered the event and each dorm planned activities for the afternoon.  Congrats seniors on a job well done.  You can see more images from graduation by going to our Knight Pics website by clicking here.
