Jerry's Notes: In the Beginning...

The Knightly Knews always likes to look at Woodward Academy history in order to step back and respect where we have come from.  The following article of Jerry's Notes was original published in Volume 21 of the Knightly Knews.  If you didn't have a chance to see it, click here and download a .pdf version of it.

Jerry's Notes are intended to pass along some WA history and observations of life on campus.  To bring you up to speed, Jerry Anderson is an original employee of Woodward Academy and has held several positions including that of business manager.  He is currently on the Board of Directors for the Woodward Youth Corporation and had the second education center named in his honor.

WA Doc rocks the Cedar Rapids Independent Film Festival

Even though the 2012 powerlifting season is over, the 2011 season still lives on... through film.  Knights of Iron was Woodward Academy's first feature length documentary.  It followed the 2011 powerlifting team they went down to Corpus Christi, TX to compete.  This past weekend it played at the Cedar Rapids Independent Film Festival in Cedar Rapids, IA that was sponsored by The Iowa Motion Picture Association, Best Buy, and the local ABC affiliate.

It played twice over the 2 day festival that was held at the Collins Road Theatres and closed the Friday night session as the feature.  The film won the "Gold Eddy" as Best Pro-Am Documentary and generated a good crowd response during viewing.

Track Preview - 2012 Poster

The unseasonably warm weather once again brings the track and field season into full bloom.  Pictured is the 2012 Woodward Academy Track and Field poster, highlighting the athletes for this year.  The Knights hope to match the previous two successful seasons and the weather has allowed for a good start in preparations this year.  Last season was a remarkable year for the Knights as they won the District Championship for the first time and qualified for the state meet in 9 different events.

The poster is a composite of individual images combined into one.  The runners in front holding the batons represent the team captains.  To view other campus sports posters, go to our Knight Pics website by clicking here.
